Ladies Auxiliary 5k Staff

First Annual Knights Challenge 5K a Success

At 6:00 AM this morning many of these ladies gathered at St. John the Evangelist Church Parish Center to begin preparation for the First Annual Knights Challenge 5K Run / 1M Walk.  Together with Mary’s Millennium Knights of Columbus Council #12801, they were hosting the event to raise funds in support of Hanover Township Food Pantry.

Welcome guests from the Knights Challenge 5K.  We’d like to tell you a little bit about ourselves.  We are considered a “committee” of the Mary’s Millennium Knights of Columbus Council #12801. As such, we stand in partnership with the Knights of Columbus whereby we are a responsibility of, and are responsible to the Knights of Columbus. We function independently and in compliment to the Knights.  But, as you’ve witnessed today, we work rather well together to achieve our common goals.

Registration tableHelping with Registration

Most of the participants in the Knights Challenge 5K registered online in advance which helped the registration process go smoothly on race day.   The participants checked in to get their assigned number, pick up their technical t-shirts, and goody bags.

This gentleman was one of the early arrivals once registration began around 7 AM.   We’re not sure if you can see it on his jacket, but there are white flakes on the sleeves.   In case you weren’t up early this morning, we’ll give you a hint on what they were (think winter).  You guessed it, there were snow flakes in the air prior to race time.

Knights & Ladies DisplayHanover Township Food Pantry

As you can see from our display board, we are actively involved in works of charity in our church and community.  Hanover Township Food Pantry is one of the charities that we annually support with funds and volunteer hours.   When the Knights approached us, asking if we would consider helping organize a 5K race to support the food pantry, we were more than happy to volunteer our assistance.

The holiday season is fast approaching, really evident with today’s snow flurries, and there are many families in our area that could use some extra assistance to make the holidays happy.  That is where we, in conjunction with Hanover Township hope to make a difference.

By YOUR support of our race today, your too have helped in this worthy cause.  For that we will be forever grateful.  We hope that you enjoyed the time you spent with us today and that you will join us next year for the Second Annual Knights Challenge 5K.   Be sure to follow Knights Challenge 5K on Facebook so that you’ll learn about our event once we begin our planning.
