Ladies Social

Thank you Ladies for a lovely evening on Tuesday December 18th. Our appreciation goes out to Patti Kaltinger as Hospitality Chair and all her committee helpers – and Jim for being the “muscle”. We shared prayers, music, games, joyful conversation and FOOD!  Dave Stimek received a small token of our appreciation and we sent cards to Fr. Ted and Fr. Peter.

Pajamarama

We collectePajamas Collected for Crisis Centerd  at least 200 sets of PJ’s for the Women’s Crisis Center and many gift cards for our Special Family. During the business meeting, we learned about the needs of the Crisis Center and how our contributions, like these pajamas, help the many recipients that walk through their doors.   They are very grateful to all that the Ladies Auxiliary has done and will do in the future.

We had 32 ladies at the meeting. That is a record high for us. Ladies, pat yourselves on the back. What a lovely evening for all.

November 2012 Lady of the Month

Congratulations to November Lady of the Month Recipient

Carol Zahler, Outreach Committee Co-chair and Church Committee chair, is shown here receiving the Lady of the Month award from President Johna Brand.

Please join us in congratulating Carol for her contributions to the Ladies Auxiliary and St. John’s parish.

Congratulations to December Lady of the Month Recipient

Gae DeMarino is a long time member of the Auxiliary and is one of our staunch supporters of all we do  – and always with a smile!   Thank you Gae for all you do!  Unfortunately, Johna didn’t have the certificate at the social, so we’ll have to wait for another time to see the actual award picture.

A list of recognition award recipients can be found in: Ladies of Month and Year History

Feast of Immaculate Conception

Saturday, December 8th, 2012

Madonna and Child - St. Peter's Square, VaticanThe Immaculate Conception is a dogma of the Catholic Church maintaining that from the moment when she was conceived the Blessed Virgin Mary was kept free of original sin and was filled with the sanctifying grace normally conferred during baptism. Today, December 8th, is the Feast Day of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

When the Knights of Columbus Council #12801 formed, we took Mary as our symbol to watch over and guide us in the works we perform in her name, in our parish and surrounding community.

The image we are using in this article is of Madonna and Child. Blessed Pope Paul II had this mosaic installed in St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican. He too had a special devotion to Mary who we are certain guided him during his papacy.

Inspired by words of praise from the book of Judith and Song of Solomon, the following prayer glorifies the Virgin Mary’s holiness and beauty:

You are all beautiful, Mary.
and the original stain [of sin] is not in you.
Your clothing is white as snow, and your face is like the sun.
You are all beautiful, Mary.
and the original stain [of sin] is not in you.
You are the glory of Jerusalem, you are the joy of Israel, you give honor to our people.
You are all beautiful, Mary.

Ladies Aux. Bake SaleBreakfast with the Knights & Ladies Bake Sale

The Holiday Pancake Breakfast with the Knights and Ladies Auxiliary Bake Sale and Fair is one of the best social events held by the Knights and Ladies each year.   This year’s event was no exception.   There was a good turnout for the breakfast and everyone seemed to be enjoying the time socializing with fellow parishioners.

Many hours of preparation went into the event, with the Ladies’ ovens at full tilt as they prepared some of their favorite dessert recipes.   They will tell you that they enjoyed baking for the sale.  It is a chance for them to share their baking talents and raise funds to support their charitable efforts for the rest of the fraternal year.

Raffle DrawingIn addition to the pancakes and baked goods, the Ladies held a raffle of some holiday items that went to the lucky winners.

We thank everyone that attended the breakfast and bake sale for your support.   These breakfasts help the Knights and Ladies raise funds which are put to very good use on your behalf.   Holiday time is especially difficult for those down and out and the Ladies are doing their share to make Christmas a little brighter.

You probably noticed the Giving Trees in the lobby of the church.   The Knights and Ladies organize this toy drive every year, and with the help of parishioners, make some people’s wish for a Christmas gift come true.   The Ladies helped make the tags which hung on the tree and still had time to bake for the breakfast.

Thank you to all that helped make this year’s Holiday Breakfast with the Knights a success.   Our next breakfast will be in the Spring.
